Mutilateral Meeting in Gwangju
 


A delegation of EU IUC Asia, CityNet and the City of Tampere of Finland visited International Cliamte and Environment Center (UEA Secretariat) in Gwangju, Republic of Korea on Thursday, 15 March 2018.

This visits is part of the EU-CityNet World Cities Project that fosters exchange between the European and Korean cities. The cities participating in the project are four Korean cities - Seoul, Suwon, Gwangju and Busan - and European pairs - Eindhoen (Netherlands), Scottish Cities (UK), Tampere (Finland) and Barcelona (Spain).

The city of Gwangju (ICEC) and Tampere (Gwangju's pair city) discussed potential areas of cooperation such as

• International cooperation projects between Gwangju and Tampere (e.g. Horizon 2020 that is organized by EU)
• Development of mobile application related climate change by the participation of two cities' citizen

• Cool Gwangju Project, Gwangju Heatwave Forum and citizen participation initiatives
• Energy Valley Project in cooperation with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and neighboring local governments
• Eco-friendly Vehicle Project (subsidized by the national government)

The final meeting of World Cities Projects will be placed from 19 to 21 April in Busan.
